The mesh we use, and why it matters
Not everything sold as a security screen is one. The difference sits in the mesh, the frame and the lock, and it is not something you can judge by looking at a screen from three metres away.
Elite fits Amplimesh security doors and window screens, made in Australia and backed by Capral Aluminium. Amplimesh is a member of the National Security Screen Association, the industry body for security screens in Australia. There are several mesh types in the range, and the right one depends on what you are trying to achieve.
SupaScreen. Woven 316 marine grade stainless steel, 0.8mm high tensile wire. A 156 degree viewing angle and 41 per cent airflow, so it reads more like a flyscreen than a barrier. The mesh is held in a patented pressure fit system that keeps the stainless steel from touching the aluminium frame, which prevents the galvanic corrosion that shortens the life of cheaper screens. Tested to Bushfire Attack Level 40, and to BAL-FZ when paired with a compliant window. Sixteen year warranty.
IntrudaGuard. A single perforated sheet of 5052 marine grade aluminium, 1.2mm. A 119 degree viewing angle and 40 per cent airflow. Because every component is aluminium there is no possibility of galvanic corrosion at all. Rated to BAL-29. Ten year warranty.
PrivacyGuard. Aluminium sheet with tapered directional openings, so people outside see very little while you still see out clearly. Worth considering for a front door facing the street or a bedroom window close to a boundary. Rated to BAL-29. Seven year warranty.
Diamond Grille. The traditional aluminium grille, and the most economical option in the range. A visible deterrent rather than a tested security barrier.
Every Amplimesh screen is custom measured, made to size and professionally installed. Frames come in a range of powder coat colours so the screen matches your existing windows and doors rather than fighting them.
Locks, doors and window options
Every Amplimesh security door comes with a triple lock system as standard, engaging the frame at three points rather than one. For homes that want keyless entry, the Yale Unity Security Screen Lock is available as an option. It meets Australian lock standards AS4145.2:2008 and can be operated from a phone.
Doors are available hinged, sliding or folding. Window screens come fixed, hinged or sliding, and hinged or sliding versions let you open the screen completely when you want maximum airflow.
SupaScreen fixed window screens also work as tested fall prevention screens, meeting the National Construction Code requirement for the protection of openable windows. That matters for upstairs bedrooms, where a restriction device limits how far a window opens but a fall prevention screen lets you use the whole window safely.

Tested to Australian Standards
Amplimesh SupaScreen, IntrudaGuard and PrivacyGuard products are tested under Australian Standards AS5039.1:2023 and AS5039.3:2023. Three tests matter most:
Dynamic impact. Five separate 200 joule impacts, replicating someone kicking or shouldering the screen to force their way through.
Jemmy test. Up to 450 newtons, roughly 45 kilograms of force, applied for 20 seconds with a large lever against the lock and hinge areas. This is the test that separates a genuine security door from a screen door with a deadlock on it.
Knife shear. A blade drawn across the mesh repeatedly, testing the hardness and tensile strength of the material itself.
If you are comparing quotes, ask which standard the screen has been tested to rather than taking the word security at face value. Ask about the lock specifically, because it is usually the weakest part of a cheap door.
Security doors FAQs
A flyscreen is designed to keep insects out and nothing more. A security screen uses a high tensile stainless steel or marine grade aluminium mesh set into a reinforced frame, with a multi point lock, and is tested against impact, levering and cutting. A flyscreen will not resist any of those.
Less than most people expect. SupaScreen has a 156 degree viewing angle and 41 per cent airflow, and IntrudaGuard is 119 degrees and 40 per cent. Modern mesh is far finer than the old diamond grille, so the view through it stays clear.
Yes. The Amplimesh SupaScreen, IntrudaGuard and PrivacyGuard products we fit are tested under AS5039.1:2023 and AS5039.3:2023, which covers dynamic impact, jemmy and knife shear testing.
You can, but it is worth knowing the trade off. Fitting a pet door means the screen is no longer compliant with AS5039, regardless of the size of the opening, because it compromises the security of the door. If security is the main reason you are buying, we would usually suggest a different solution for the pet.
They can. SupaScreen is tested to Bushfire Attack Level 40, and to BAL-FZ when used with a window that has the required fire resistance level. IntrudaGuard and PrivacyGuard are rated to BAL-29. If your block has a BAL rating, tell us when you book and we will specify accordingly.
Not much. Canberra sits well inland, which puts it in the mildest of the four maintenance categories, so a wash roughly every six months is enough. Warm soapy water and a soft brush, then rinse with mains water and wipe dry to avoid water marks.
